Denise & Fred
I,(Fred), have been in the Native American art and crafts and rock and gem business since 1974. The road I traveled was not one of buying second hand,(from wholesalers); but traveling to the Countries of origin and purchasing the gems, gem products, such as Turquoise from Chile, or Spiny Oyster from Mexico or Black Opal from Honduras.My wife and I have set up and also partnered with bead companies in Mexico, and Peru and India. I first learned the Turquoise stabilization process from the father of stabilization; Charlie Voight in 1974. My manufacturing of Heishi and other shapes of beads came from Len Romero,(who was the biggest producer of heishi in the US at the time -1976). We went through the Turquoise boom in the 1970's and get a chuckle out of alot of the stories that people who are fairly new,(10 years or less) to the business have such interesting stories. We have met alot of interesting people and their stories along the way.
